Our names are Tina and Gerry and we are very grateful that you are reading our letter.  Considering adoption for your child must be an extremely difficult decision and it must be so hard to make the ultimate choice of who should raise your child.  As this letter will show, we are a loving and supportive couple with joy and opportunities to offer your child, but we also want to reinforce that we have something to offer you ; our solemn promise to make your child happy, and to make the adoption experience as positive for you as possible.

We are going into our 17th year together and our relationship is very fulfilling. We have built a nice life for ourselves and are fun, happy, loving, and easygoing people. Our lives are filled with great friends, good careers, and plenty of laughter.  But before we talk more about ourselves, let’s first talk about your child and what his or her life might be like with us, because this child is whom this is all about!

Your child (probably covered in craft glue and glitter) in our loving, creative, happy family…

We both believe in developmental parenting, which focuses on empowering a child so he/she has a strong sense of self.  We will completely support him/her with anything they want to do in life. If your child believes glitter should be stuck to the cat…then who are we to deny him/her that experience (as long as the cat doesn’t mind)?  Actually, we don’t have a cat, but you get the point.

We will be standing on the sidelines of the soccer field or ice arena cheering for your child every step of the way.   Of course, we are prepared to accept the responsibility of raising your child no matter what life adventure (or demands they may have, because children have lots of demands!) comes our way, but we say ‘bring it on’ because we are whole heartedly ready to be parents to your child.  With us, your child will grow up in a secure and stable family environment, including an atmosphere full of love, compassion, happiness and lots of Play Doh!

Your child will learn about strong family values. We are both from large families and love being with our families.  Family reunions, camping trips, holidays and visits for reasons none other than because we like the people in our families is a big priority for us. Tina has one sister, three brothers and eight nieces and nephews.  Gerry has one sister, one brother and five nieces and nephews.  Obviously your child will have lots of other kids to play with.  Tina’s dad is the oldest of 15 children (can you even imagine???), so every four years we have a camping family reunion with her very large extended family. It is a crazy and awesome camping extravaganza involving way too many marshmallows.

Gerry, the kid at heart…

Gerry is a musician and is continually expanding his musical talents.  Gerry also has a deep love for writing and is totally into computer animation.  There isn’t an animation dvd out there that he doesn’t line up to buy so he can watch and re-watch. He is very creative!  He has a wonderful and silly sense of humour and gets along with everyone, always making our friends and families laugh.  Gerry is also a fantastic cook! A fresh, home cooked meal can always be found in our kitchen.  Gerry is also kind and non-judgemental, making him the sort of person people immediately open up to. He was once told that he makes people “ooze” out their problems because his listening skills are so strong.

Gerry works as a Digital Content Creator at a multi-site hospital in the Learning and Development Program.  In this role, he is building e-Learning programs that help staff learn new procedures through interactive learning.  He also has his own business doing Graphic Design work.  He is planning on making this his full time gig so he can be a stay-at-home Dad.

Tina, the fanatical chocolate maker…

Tina is affectionate, loving, warm-hearted, generous, and very family oriented.  She goes to great lengths to make sure all guests feel welcome in her home.  She loves to encourage others to be the best they can be and is always willing to lend a hand or an ear.  Tina has recently discovered an obsession for creating scrumptious, chocolate creations which she has to pass off to her friends so she and Gerry don’t munch too much!  Tina enjoys knitting and will be great at offering your child lots of crafts, art and baking time.

Tina works with two large hospitals in the Psychiatry Department as the Administrative Manager.  She worked her way up into this role through her hard work, dedication and commitment to personal excellence.  At the same time, she attended BCIT in the evenings and received first her Management and then her Leadership Certificates.

Together as a kooky couple…

We like to connect with nature.  Either with family, friends or on our own we love activities such as camping, hiking, going for walks, going to the beach, boating and waterskiing, or sailing with Gerry’s sister and brother in law.

We both enjoy all kinds of music and do a lot of reading.   Your child will quickly enjoy the fun and excitement that is always found in a good fairy princess tale or pirate adventure novel.  Reading is also an excellent way to promote a love for learning. While we are fun loving, artistic and down to earth, we will also encourage your child to fulfill their potential academically in every way possible.

We love to hang out with our friends and their children.  We thrive in the joyous group environment when it is our turn to host a dinner party and really give our guests a gourmet treat.  We have awesome friends.

On the more serious side, there are so many other things that capture the essence of who we are.  It is the little things that have the biggest effect on our lives: the support from each other when we are having a bad day, a caress on the hand when watching TV, the receiving of flowers ‘just because’,  or the silly play time we share which always leads to the giggles, to name a few. We believe that it is the little things in life that will make your child’s experience with us so fulfilling for us all.

We are so excited about this new journey in our lives.  We are comfortable with the fact that our infertility has led us to this path of adoption.  We are very excited about sharing our love and our lives with your child, and look forward to the learning, experiences and love that raising your child will bring to ours.

Being part of our forever (and often silly) family…

We would like to keep in touch with you so you can stay connected to your child.  Let us offer this to you with a whole heart and softness because we care about you.  If you are interested, we will send you pictures of your child smiling, blowing bubbles, and stuffing peas up their nose.  Let us tell you by e-mail about daily events, like about the first time they crawl, cut a tooth, or pee on the doctor’s face during a check up.   Be part of our family by having Gerry create a website for you filled with recent pictures of your child that you can share with your family and friends anytime you want.  We are just so flexible and would enjoy meeting with you to come up with a ‘forever family’ plan that you and your family are comfortable with, including visits.  Our goal is to establish a relationship that works for everyone.
