Jessica, Scott & Makayla
OUR STORY
Jessica and Scott met in the summer of 1999 and have been inseparable ever since. They dated and created a life together, finally getting married in October 2005. Life together is always an adventure! ABOUT SCOTT Scott was born and raised in a small country town by a farming family. He learned hard work and dedication from a young age helping his dad around the farm. Whether it was growing crops or raising animals, he quickly realized that everything needs room and nurture to grow and be successful. Scott's parents live in a separate house on the farm property. He has a younger brother (who lives with and cares for their parents) and 2 step/half brothers that live off the property with their families. Scott is a stay-at-home dad and takes pride in keeping our property stunning. After sustaining an injury from an accident, Scott is unable to work in a typical capacity. However, we are lucky enough to have all this attention, hard work and dedication at home. ABOUT JESSICA Jessica was born and raised in a large, busy city by a hard-working mom and a steel worker dad. Although bother parent worked, Jessica and her older sister, Jennifer, never felt this was a disadvantage. Our parents taught us the world owes us nothing and to work for everything you have. Jessica shows this by working full time in an accounting position that she loves. We grew up a close family that travelled often and spent time together. Sadly, Jessica lost her father at a young age but remains very close to her mom and sister. Jessica's only sister, Jennifer, still lives in the same city they grew up in with her husband and 2 children. Jessica's mom also lives in the city where she works full time and enjoys travel. ABOUT MAKAYLA (as written by Jessica) Oh, how to brief when talking about Makayla. She is our blessing, our miracle. We never thought we would ever have children. It was a reality that hurt our hearts. In the fall of 2008, we reconnected with a family friend who was so proud in showing pictures of her beautiful children. She asked when Scott and I will have babies. Explaining my infertility issues was especially difficult for me. The more I talked about it, the more I felt like I was letting Scott down in not being able to give him a family. After many discussions, this friend became our surrogate and selflessly offered her body as a home until our baby was ready for birth. On October 17, 2009, our daughter Makayla was born. |

In the past 6 1/2 years, she has grown up to be a loving, caring, thoughtful and respectful young girl. She is a grade 1 and loves school. She's social and fun to be around. She has a heart of gold and is first to offer her hand in friendship to a sad or scared friend. She's in her 3rd year of playing soccer and really enjoy it. She's also just finishing her final year of Spark's before carrying on to be a Brownie.
At home, she's helpful around the house and rarely turns down the opportunity to cuddle up to a read a book before bed.
When asked if she would like a little brother or sister, Makayla's face lights up. She's excited to share her love, her toys and her space, but no diapers! (haha)
OUR HOME & COMMUNITY
We live on a 100 acre family farm. Although there are no longer farm animals on the property, we still farm the land. Scott and I searched for months for a home of our own off the farm. During our search, Scott's mom medical concerns and we decided that it might be better to stay close. We made all the applications to our local municipality to put a second home on the farm property. In March 2011, we were successful and we were living in our home by August 2011. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 full bathroom home with a large living room, dining room and open concept kitchen. Living on a farm, we have plenty of green space to enjoy. A cozy gazebo our front, a swing/slide set out back, yard perfect for a small kiddie pool and sprinklers in the summer, gardens everywhere that show off bursts of colour from spring to fall. It is Scott's family's tradition to grow an all natural garden. Jessica and Makayla take this opportunity to learn lots about growing table ready veggies. There is something extremely satisfying about sitting down to farm fresh veggies that were grown with love.
OUR PARENTING
Scott and I talked a lot before Makayla was born about how were raise her, what we would make priority and what values would be most important to focus on. Love, respect and happiness were to be our focus. We imagined it would be that easy. Every single day is an important focus. We spend time together always, whether it be travelling or enjoying what we have at home. We snuggle up and watch movies on Sunday afternoons. We take off our shows to run through the sprinkler that is watering our garden, because we can. We read, we cook, we bake, we play, we love.
WHAT ADOPTING MEANS TO US
We aren't looking at adopting a baby because we think we did it right the first time. We aren't looking to adopt a baby because we want a second chance to do it right. Family isn't about blood, its any person who is loved by someone, supports someone, includes someone, is also there for someone. We are looking to adopt an infant to grow our family, not just by 2 tiny feet.
OPENNESS
Scott, Makayla and I believe that OUR child (all of ours) would create the beautiful family environment that every child deserves. This includes you, the first mom, the birth mom. We would like the opportunity to welcome you into our family and be part of this magic that your baby will know. If openness is not something you are comfortable with, please know that you will always be thought of with the most respect and honor. You will always be our baby's first roots.
THANK YOU
We understand that you have a lot of decisions to make, and a lot of profile of people who say much of the same things. So it's hard to stand out and be the difference. Maybe we're not, and that's ok. Whatever is meant to be, will be. We wish you all the best in your journey!
